How to Plan a Food Drive for CYWA

A food drive gives a workplace, bank, school, faith community or neighborhood a practical way to support Coatesville households. The most useful first step is a conversation with CYWA about current needs.

1. Confirm what CYWA can accept

Use our inquiry form or call 610-384-9591 before collecting items. Describe your group, collection dates and likely donation size. Ask staff for an approved list and any packaging or storage requirements. Do not assume every type of food can be accepted.

2. Give participants a clear collection plan

Share the staff-approved list, collection location and deadline. Choose one organizer to answer questions and keep track of donations. For fresh, frozen or refrigerated items, agree on handling and delivery arrangements directly with CYWA before collection.

3. Arrange delivery in advance

Tell staff the approximate quantity and whether transport or unloading help is needed. Grocery pickup hours serve households receiving food; donor drop-offs should be scheduled separately.

4. Keep your group involved

Ask about future collections or volunteer opportunities. Banks and businesses can also discuss a community partnership with CYWA.

What should we ask first?

  • Which items are most useful right now?
  • What cannot be accepted?
  • When and where should the donation arrive?
  • What information does staff need for acknowledgment?
